Teeth Grinding/Occlusal Splint

Bruxism

Teeth grinding and clenching is a condition known as Bruxism. Bruxism puts pressure on muscle and tissue of the jaw joints and surrounding area. Generally clenching and grinding happens during the night when you are asleep, but some people do experience it when they are awake.

Sighs you may be grinding or clenching your teeth may include;

  • Worn teeth
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Broken and fractured teeth
  • Pain in and around the surrounding areas of the jaw.
  • Waking up with a headache.

Our dentist at Gleam Dentistry recommend an occlusal splint. An occlusal splint is a removable plastic devise that moults to your teeth and is worn at night-time to help reduce grinding and clenching. Our dentists work closely with our local lab to make you a custom fit split specifically to your mouth. A splint takes two appointments one for impressions and two weeks later for a fitting.

Without an occlusal splint you risk avoidable issues such a broken and damage teeth, pain, and bite alignment issues.
