Root Canal Treatment To Remove Infected Tissue
Root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it. Root canal therapy is often associated with been a scary and painful experience but our team at Gleam Dentistry will ensure the experience is painless and comfortable
Signs you may need root canal therapy are;
- Severe toothache.
- Tenderness to chewing and touch.
- Sensitivity to hot and or cold.
- Tooth discolouration.
- Pimple like bump near the effected tooth on the gum line.
Root canal procedure involves removing the infected/ damaged nerve tissue (Pulp) located in the centre of the tooth. Our dentist will thoroughly shaped and clean each canal and use an antibacterial to irrigate the affected area. Root canal treatment may take up to 2-3 appointments depending on the severity of the infection. Once the area is treated the tooth will be filled and sealed with a temporary filling. Our dentists recommend a crown after tooth is treated for the best outcome to protect what remains of the tooth.
If a root canal is left untreated pain can increase and risk of serious dental infection spreading and loss of tooth. If you choose to have the tooth extracted consideration must be given to replace the tooth to avoid shifting of other teeth, change in bite and facial appearance.
